The Purple Star program recognizes schools that go above and beyond to support military-connected students and their families. Because military life often involves frequent moves, deployments and transitions, these schools focus on creating a welcoming environment and offering consistency through dedicated staff liaisons, specialized training, student transition programs and accessible resources.

During the award ceremony, Col. Andrew Miller, commander of the 75th Mission Support Group, emphasized the value of programs like Purple Star in creating stability and belonging. He shared that his 13-year-old child had already attended seven schools, underscoring the need for schools that are prepared to welcome and support mobile military families.

With 101 Purple Star Schools statewide, Davis School District’s 62 designated schools represent more than half of Utah’s total — reflecting the district’s strong, ongoing commitment to supporting military families.
